The Nina Variations is a mesmerizing, enjoyable, thought-provoking show. Impeccable direction, beautiful script, and phenomenal performers who are present and alive the entire time. I was so impressed by the way the performers moved about the space like they owned it. Really excellent, excellent work. ...

“You wrap the dagger with such elegance.” That line isn’t the only thing that’s sharp in this show! James and Natalie are outstanding in bringing a second life (or 42nd) to Chekov’s fated characters - Treplev and Nina. As a lover of the original play, this was a must see for me! But, even without knowing the showing James and Natalie make sure to bring the audience in to the the cold, foreboding Russian landscape that sets the tone for these variations to play out as we watch this enigmatic pair desperately try to find a way to each other… forgiveness… a different ending… a resolution. And the journey is beyond captivating. ...

An absolutely beautiful piece of theatre with two heartfelt performances. The play is a companion piece to Anton Chekhov’s play “The Seagull,” so if you’re familiar with that play, you’ll find this exploration of the characters (Nina and Konstantin) especially fascinating. I highly recommend this beautiful play. ...

Natalie Valentine and James Carter Montgomery are exceptional actors. They are present and alive in each and every moment in this show. They move through each scene with purpose and make what they accomplish look easy. It is not. They put the work in and it shows. Excellent work. ...

It has been a highlight of the fringe festival and one not to be missed. ...

What makes the play sing is its elasticity—it’s not just a showcase for Chekhov obsessives, but a theatrical duet that demands emotional and physical range. At the Broadwater Studio under Richard Kenyon‘s thoughtful direction, the piece crackles with intimacy and theatrical danger, with James Carter Montgomery and Natalie Valentine constantly shifting tone, tactic, and temperature....
