What I liked

The presentational style and incorporation of drag and performative art was a big highlight. And as someone who only speaks a little Spanish, even when the conversations dipped into being bilingual, the responses in English still allowed me to follow along even if I didn’t track the whole conversation.

What I didn't like

There wasn’t a whole lot of nuance with the conversations and portrayals, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Just the show felt very surface level with the presentation of the journey of Elektra, so if the goal is to hit deeper and connect more profoundly with the audience, I think giving a little more breathing space to the scenes including the mother would help with that, as well as the young adult arc having more weight to the reveals and confessions.

My overall impression

The show felt like a feel-good after school special on TV. Getting to see the journey of a young woman grappling with her identity and going through self-discovery, the concept did well when being overt and explicit about the messages it wanted to convey.
