My overall impression
Wildly entertaining! The show is full, the show is honest, the show is brave. A perfect harmony of laughter and tears, Poached takes you on a whirlwind of an emotional roller coaster that is unique in a way that only Writer/Performer Mara Weisband – with her radiant stage presence and poignant sense of humor – can achieve. It’s a deeply personal play. Yes, it’s about Mara and her struggles but what you quickly come to realize as you watch it is that it’s actually about all of us. It’s about that age-old battle between ourselves and that no-so-little voice in our head that is constantly ridiculing us at every turn – telling us we’re not good enough, not pretty enough, not worthy enough and so on. Along with the keen eye of director Jack Kasprzak, Mara seamlessly navigates the story in ways that are insightful, vulnerable, shocking, thought-provoking and ultimately cathartic. Truly inspiring. I would highly recommend!
