Rooting for SLÜRT. She’s so easy to love. I wanted to care for her on her big city adventure. This performance is a very clear invitation to play and to be soft. It’s a big, silly, soft-hearted experience with a character who is both very alien and very human. The design of this thing is clever. The use of the projection is clever. Her ability to take up the whole wide space is so much fun to watch and all of the shiny and iridescent and soft items onstage set such a tone. I can’t BELIEVE we all got to sing karaoke in SLÜRT’s native language. What a fast bond Emily creates with her audience. She’s like a gentle glue.
What I didn't like
I dunno, I think I just want SLÜRT merch.
My overall impression
An ethereal silly landscape of adventure washed over me as I was initiated into SLÜRT’s world. The world building in this show is exciting. SLÜRT speaks her own language the whole time but Emily’s ability to connect with every audience member makes it seem familiar. I love the way SLÜRT’s journey is rooted in the familiar: nature documentary, “going to the big city” story, heartbreak story. All occupied by a faery-like weirdo (complimentary). There is such a genuine feeling of sweetness with this character and it is a joy when she interacts. You really feel the warmth even though she’s from a cold, cold polar place.
