What I liked

The indulgence and true sincerity. When I watch QWFWFQ, I see Greg telling their story exactly how they want to and it’s a true joy to see their vision come to life. Their love of language is clear so I love watching them use it in creative ways. I enjoy hearing them monologue and use words I’ve never heard of. To put it frankly, I’m learning new things when I watch this show. I’m learning about their intersectional experience as a queer Jewish person, an academic and a creative, someone who has so much knowledge and yet is still wondering. My favorite moments are when Greg stands center stage and tells us about their life. However, these moments would not pop without the meta structure they’ve carefully and creatively built. I also love the bit with the tea mug and both the sound and lighting design.

What I didn't like

Not really a note but a curiosity. I’m wondering what other ways the glitches could occur in the show as forms of interruption. Could these be light or sound cues, a distortion of the voice, a projection, the transformation of a set piece? What does a glitch look like onstage? Someone’s phone going off? As you can see this show has sparked my imagination.

My overall impression

QFWFQ is not only a solo show but a call to action. It inspires me to investigate my own story, how I’m telling it and how it lives within the context of others. Greg weaves their own story through the mechanism of meta-theatricality and magical realism so that our imaginations are sparked while we hone in on the details of their life. (which we are all eager to learn about). This show is deeply personal, intellectual, playful, and strong.
