You know how sometimes you go to see a solo show that’s like “Hey here are some really hard moments from my life” and you’re like “oh no you did that with no artistry and I not only feel unsafe, but kind of insulted at how poorly you handled that?” Yeah this is the opposite of that in every conceivable way. Greg is an artist and also so obviously smart – and I love how the burden of their brilliance is made evident throughout.
What I didn't like
I wanted to buy some chocolate before the show, so I went to the liquor store around the corner and the best I could do was a Milky Way, which was FINE, but Greg? You can do better.
My overall impression
I was absolutely spellbound from the moment the pre-show announcement began to the moment the lights faded out. Within 30 minutes I knew I was going to rise to my feet the second it was over. Greg’s writing is so sharp, so funny, so deeply personal, and their performance is captivating and human. It’s rare that a solo show can unveil so much raw personal history AND hold the audience’s hand through it in a brilliant and safe way. Highly, HIGHLY recommend. Wow. Also shout out: the set is delightful.
