Learning about the inspiration for this play, talking to the playwright afterwards, I’m so impressed at how the premise was brought to life. Even talking about lucid dreaming and astral projections is a trip, so creating a piece that brings the audience along on that journey is a heavy lift. I felt the audience’s experience was similarly both disorienting and touching in often successful ways. A piece on this topic MUST be written and performed with those elements in play, and the creators and cast accomplished that in many ways. Lana McKissack really shone in the lead role, bringing pathos & comedy at critical moments.
What I didn't like
Some subtle changes could help guide the audience along, giving them a few more narrative handles to hang on to.
My overall impression
A strongly original piece about the power of dreams, alternate realities, and family.
