"Rodeo Town" is uncomfortably satisfying. Dark but sweet. Surreal but honest. Aggressively sensual but tenderly innocent. Bowlin's outstanding script is brought to life by the incredible performances of the ensemble of four men who truly take you to another time and place, maybe even another world (who knows what or where Rodeo Town really is...). You'll feel a swelling gamut of emotion that will grip your heart, paralyze your sense of wrong and right, relieve you with humor, only to leave you in awe. What struck me most about this disconcertingly haunting piece of theater was the absolutely superb acting. All four actors nailed their characters with beautiful precision and commitment. "Rodeo Town" was intense with a strong and powerful performance by Harry Beer as Lonnie. Lonnie seems to be always drinking and undaunted by the actions and demands of Kelly until a stranger appears as a guest of Garth. Lonnie knows the truth about the situation and tries desperately to change the inevitable outcome for his beloved friend, Kelly Dustin Bayers plays the soft, warm and fuzzy character of Kelly. Kelly hides a secret that keeps the audience puzzled throughout the entire show until the very end. Dustin, as Kelly, keeps the audience guessing while providing some clues to the past Eric Cire plays the psychotic, Garth. Rodeo town is a real treat. There's intensity, great laughs, bewilderment and understanding. When the lights come down and the show begins, it's one of those moments where you can just feel that you're gonna be hooked in for a great ride. The characters and their mysteries keep you captivated and puzzled right up until the paly's stunning end. Graham Bowlin's writing is very natural and beautiful, embedded with mystery, humor and teeters down to disquieting lows. The actors do superb work with their roles. Every single actor in this play gives a fantastic performance and gives their whole heart. Dustin Gooche is entertaining in that awkward, lost, sad-excuse-of-a-man kind of way.
