The way Faith was able to weaponize my expectations against me was nothing short of masterful. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there are a few traps she lays for the audience that at first to appear to be maybe a mouse trap, only to reveal a pit of spikes underneath as she leads you towards it. And then the spikes explode.
The innocence she presents is disarming, all the better to strike you over the head with an out-of-left-field gag or moment of searing insight. There is a level of vulnerability, honesty, and insecurity on display that belies an amount of self-understanding that can often be missing from shows like this.
Also the recurring bit of awkwardly demanding an audience member answer an uncomfortable question to “reassure” Faith got me every time.
What I didn't like
I will be filing a motion with the Council of Drews requesting expulsion of the one featured in this show.
My overall impression
Upon hearing the premise, I thought I knew how this show was going to play out, but Faith zigs when it looks like she’s about to zag, then zigs again just to mess with you. The ending may be a foregone conclusion, but the way Faith gets you there is full of surprises, heart, and a goofiness that just won’t quit.
