What I liked

She totally charms in her role as little weirdo at the dawn of her sexual self-possession. Courageously sincere how the playwright is able to self-consciously address the fear, guilt, shame that survivor’s of sexual assault often feel around their own perceived hypocrisy in “willing” an unwelcome sexual advance into being, or otherwise allowing it to happen. You the reader will simply have to trust that this play does a much better job addressing this difficult subject than I am right now.

What I didn't like

The show is a remarkable achievement for its actor-director duo. Nagle’s talents shine through, and she is clearly destined for greatness. As a storyteller and comedian she is entirely capable of carrying the show, but evident too are some areas where she may continue to develop as an actor. The show excels in its format of direct-address, punctuated with prolonged “act-out’s” as it’s called in stand-up. But in this show there are beautiful moments where the act-out leaves the realm of storytelling tool and become organic experiences the actor is having onstage, or that we are having with her. Here is where we see Nagle’s potential as an actor which I believe is yet to fully manifest. It has me very eager to watch more of her work in the future as she further hones her dramatic craft.

My overall impression

Faith Nagle’s delightfully funny and entertaining, unique and authentic comedic voice pulls you in and doesn’t let go. The serious parts of the show, how it deals with its dark and traumatic subject matter, feel entirely earned and expertly embedded into what is, generally speaking, just a great time.
