Pretty much everything. The blocking/choreography is perfect. The actors jump, run, and slide around the stage with frenetic energy that makes for some truly hilarious stage pictures. Both backpacks and drugs get mixed up as four peoples’ secrets come to light after the power goes out, and the results will have you laughing from start to finish. The cast plays so well off each other. I also really appreciate the references to bisexuality…not only does it dispel a lot of harmful myths a out our community, but it centers us as a keystone factor of the story.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t spend a bit of time fishing about Andrew Puente. Some of the best facial expressions I think I’ll ever see in my life. His physical comedy is unmatched, and he made it so easy to laugh both with and at his larger-than-life character. Petty larceny has never been so lovable.
What I didn't like
Sorry, y’all…I got nothin’.
My overall impression
A brilliant inversion of the way we usually see things, What Happens in the Dark shows us that what we really are can sometimes only be revealed when the lights go out. Also, if you’re robbing a house, don’t drop your backpack!
