All of the actors were great, their comedy chops were so stylish and the delivery old-school to fit the form, while the content felt fresh and contemporary and culturally relevant. Impeccably handled by the whole team.
Great choreo from Casey Buxton-Dean!
Major kudos to the creative and effective lighting design, which – as you might imagine – plays a huge role in the play.
What I didn't like
This just reminded me how great farces are and now I know we need more of them!
My overall impression
What a delight! This silly farce is so so smart – even all the puns and sex jokes. It’s just such a good idea to have us see what the characters cannot. The age-old gimmick of we-know-something-they-don’t-know blown up and reimagined. Neil Simon would be proud!
Deft writing and direction – obviously the team is super theater-literate because you don’t see a lot of farces these days and there’s such a specific rhythm and way of introducing absolutely absurd, impossible nonsense that gets audience buy-in, and trust we: we were all on board the whole time!
The first half of the play, Andrew Puente doesn’t say a word, but the facial expressions and clowning and choreography are so thoughtful and specific that I think he got the heartiest laughs in those moments.
