The message of this show could not be more well-timed. El Mago Loco’s interactions with the audience timed with some brilliantly specific sound cues brought crowd work to a new level. I loved the structure of the show (spoiler!) and how it began and ended with El Mago Loco’s bombastic magic show, with a deep and personal exploration of Linzy in the middle.
What I didn't like
In the preview, I loved how El Mago Loco reacted to sound cues that were a bit late. Linzy is such a gifted improviser it was a delight when something went a little bit wrong. I would not hate it if one of those “mistakes” were kept in the show.
My overall impression
I could watch Linzy as El Mago Loco all day. Her character is so clearly defined and so FUN and she brings you into her world immediately. It’s full of clowning and great physical comedy, though it’s balanced by cerebral and visceral descriptions of Linzy’s personal experience growing up Latino with immigrant parents.
