What I liked
Backdrop projection added so much to the show with clips of 80s and 90s pop-culture, not only relevant to the themes in the show but also making the audience question social norms of the past compared to cultural expectations of current times. Make sure to stay for the entire show, even after the curtain call. Some of the biggest laughs happen after you think the show is finished. Brava, Deegie, for putting together one of the highlights of HFF 2025!
What I didn't like
Whoever was working the sound board could have turned her mic up louder when she was singing. But, Deegie being the professional that she obviously is, knew to grab the wireless mic whenever the technical mishap happened.
My overall impression
EXES: THE MUSICAL was an ambitious production and Deegie was full of energy and spunk. It was a fun show from start to finish. It was well-thought out and well-crafted—a cathartic journey sprinkled with humor and enthusiasm.
