What I liked

I personally connected with the story as Anne’s timeline is very close to my own. In that vein, I’d say it’s like Josie and the Pussycats meets Degrassi: The Next Generation and makes me want to reach for my LiveJournal. And even if the timeline doesn’t match, the emotions and experiences are timeless and relatable to anyone young trying to figure themselves out.

Also, the songs are all bops, the band is solid, and Anne has an incredible presence on stage as an actor and a musician.

What I didn't like

The acoustics in the house make the vocals a bit hard to hear at times, which is reminiscent of so many all-ages punk shows. Needs a mosh pit.

My overall impression

How do you tell a coming-of-age story about navigating the pitfalls of young love and breaking the social norms that have been programmed into millennials from birth, all while creating original songs that make you want to get up and start a circle pit? Check out Exes: The Musical. They’ve got it covered!
