I’m big fan of live music so this show was an absolute treat to check out.
What I didn't like
If this piece were to continue to be developed I would love to offer a suggestion in a collaborative spirit. It’d be great to see some more variety with the blocking, specifically in the moments where Digiovanni is recounting her past.
My overall impression
For EXES: THEMUSICAL, I can think of no better sound to represent the angst, the pain, the sorrow, the anger and, ultimately, the hope than the vibrant pop rock score it has. It’s a sound brought to life by a talented trio of musicians who have a clear passion and love for performing that shines through in each musical sequence.
Additionally, there are moments of fun visual flair with some multimedia segments cutting together pop culture highlights to accent and help string together a fairly personal story, told by Anne Digiovanni.
It’s a vulnerable place she’ll take ya and I respect any creative who can put themselves out there in such an honest way. And inspiring. A great reminder of how we can take some of the darkest moments of our lives and find, if not peace and tranquility, some kick ass rock songs.
