My favorite musicals are the ones that are earnest and from the heart. You have to be sincere if you're going to be singing your feelings. Exes definitely comes from a real place. It is a wonderful exploration of the complicated and messy world of relationships. Throughout the show, we get a great sense of evolution and growth in the music and Deegie's performance. She tells us her story and who she is, and we get to see her go through the trials and tribulations of her relationships, learning about herself as she goes. Each part of the show gives us a fuller sense of who she is and how she is changing through the years. It's an incredibly well-done show that takes us inside her head.
