beautiful physicality, great moving story, the fun of seeing inside a new world I never thought about
What I didn't like
I really can’t think of anything!
My overall impression
Who are those folks making the magic happen off stage, in the dark? Turns out the “unseen” are also sometimes artists with their own dreams. Kim Prentice takes us into the intimate underbelly of a Broadway crew member’s life and challenges. It’s the details of being a “costume hag” to the stars that make this show hilarious – I laughed a lot! – but it is the ambition of the dresser to become a dancer on stage herself that is heartbreaking and gives this story depth. We are all really rooting for her to make it out of her survival job and into the limelight. Prentice pops in and out of scenes and characters like a pro. Tumbling about the stage in all black like a ninja, her red hair flashing, dynamic in her storytelling and physicality, we don’t doubt for a second that she belongs on stage front and center, ready to be seen at last.
