A Solo Star Vehicle extraordinaire—-Fringe Theatre at its very best. Autobiographical (or not?) it’s a riveting and rewarding FRESHPOV that carries the audience with it every step of the way, abetted by fine lighting and directoral choices.
What I didn't like
UNSEEN is the sort of generic agency-concocted title which too often becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy! What says “Look at ME!” in subtler way? Otherwise, show fully fills all of the allotted hour but seems flexible enough to be edited and abridged on the run to fit ANY time slot! (KP did neglect to point out that Almost All of Glamorous Broadway exists is theatres that are now MORE than a century old!)
My overall impression
Truly, There’s No Biz Like Show Biz—-but what are the odds of finding a story with a FRESH voice or a NEW viewpoint? Biggest surprise of this season’s Fringe (so far) is the solo show KIMBERLYPRENTICE has concocted and propels by herself from the POV of a Broadway Dresser, full of backstage drama no audience suspects is out of sight right in front of them. Framed by a through-line of the character’s ambitions and dreams—-first deferred, then crushed—-the narrative is liberally peppered with lots of lightly sketched but very diplomatic anecdotes (no names, please!)—-a career chronicle that never touches on her own life In Person!
