I especially liked the improvisation. Caroline stayed completely in character the whole time, and her responses were so quick and perfectly in Shaylene’s voice. It made the whole experience feel really alive and spontaneous.
There was also a child in the audience at the show I saw, and it was so fun to watch how Shaylene interacted with her. The kid clearly had a great time, and it just showed how the show really works for all ages while still keeping its own weird, hilarious tone.
What I didn't like
I loved it!
My overall impression
SHAYLENE WOODLEY’S HOMESTYLESUMMERSINGALONGBBQCOOKOUT is such a fun, joyful time. Caroline is so good in this character. Shaylene is hilarious, ridiculous, fully committed, and somehow also kind of heartbreaking? The show is super interactive, super improvised, and just genuinely fun from start to finish.
You play games, you sing songs, you laugh a lot, but there’s also this really surprising layer underneath it all. Shaylene’s dealing with some real stuff, and even though the show is mostly goofy and silly, you feel the emotion creeping in around the edges. It gives the whole thing this really sweet, layered vibe that stuck with me afterward.
It’s one of those shows that makes you feel like part of a community while you’re in the room. So much heart, so much fun. Go see it!
Also, there’s live hot dog cooking. So come hungry.
