As the BRILLIANT and darkly humorous title implies, this show deals with some fairly heavy material. Thanks to such a personable cast assembled by director and writer Eric Hsu, it never feels unbearable. There are moments of levity and joy but, at the end of the day, it is all tethered to an intensely dramatic personal decision made by one of the characters.
Again, some pretty intense material brought to life by wonderful actors who clearly have respect and passion for the story they are telling.
What I didn't like
Would love to see the full dramatization of the story. This current version has really piqued my interest.
My overall impression
This is not a show that is gonna tell you how to feel as an audience member. Rather, it is an incredibly intimate slice-of-life with a deliciously complex flavor that you get to interpret yourself.
A moving piece that inspired quite a bit of self reflection within myself about my own family. The good, the bad, the funny and the sad.
