I was also struck by the use of images, video, and lighting. While they were minimal so as not to distract from the performances, each choice instantly grounded us in place and feeling. It was especially impressive given the small scale of the production.
What I didn't like
I would only love to see an even longer production if that would ever be possible.
My overall impression
Funny, biting, and unexpectedly moving, Dead Fat Corpse is a play that sneaks up on you in the best way. Barbara’s journey through the brutal realities of Hollywood and body image is told with such unflinching honesty and tenderness that the laughs often catch in your throat.
A standout performance comes from Catherine, who brings jaw-dropping range to a series of sharply drawn roles: a caustic agent, a drunken call center rep, a hardened LAPD officer, a spiteful Facebook troll. Each one is distinct, layered, and fully lived-in. Her transformations are masterful and deeply human.
This is theater that makes you laugh, reflect, and feel seen. Highly recommend.
