When Dan brings out the guitar, a sense of peace overtakes his character and the audience. Time slows and the audience gets its truest access to the emotional heart of this piece. Dan is lovable and gosh-darn honest about his experience in auditioning and supporting his kids. He allows us to “peek behind the curtain” as his emotions are taken for a whirl as he has a chance to succeed his own hero – which is a cool putting the show on its head as it has me thinking about: if Dan is moving onwards (upwards?), then what does that mean for us as an audience? Are we also evolving into the next stage? Love the layers.
What I didn't like
The songs are SO GOOD! I want to hear more of them.
My overall impression
An honest and emotional portrayal and insight into the chaos that it means to be a father. Dan is a force to be reckoned with, as a Dad actor, America’s sitcom dad, and as a Dad to us audience kids. In this breathless performance, the audience learns what it means to be a father juggling it all.
