What I liked

I very much enjoyed the simplistic style and energy. Nothing was pushed or felt out of control. Fun, witty, and engaging. The actors were thought provoking and captured the spirit of first meets of a strangers.

What I didn't like

I thoroughly enjoyed this play.

My overall impression

Sweet Air is a sweet breath of theater in its purist form. Set in NYC’s subway station, director Katie Oliver takes us on a beautiful and enthralling journey of first meets. Her direction allowed me to sit back and enjoy the art of conversation, and growing relationship between two lonely misunderstood strangers; unfolding in a way that is compelling and joyous to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed Sweet Air’s ability to be fun and complex in story. Both actors did a great job in finding the simplicity in their moments. Newton Mayenge is charming and engaging as Galen. Jenni Chiramonte is quirky and lovely as Robbie. Matt Morillo’s writing is playful and grounded from beginning to end, bringing out the wiles of New York City. This is a gem of a show that needs to be witnessed and felt.
