Jess takes you on a tour of the stages of ̶g̶r̶i̶e̶f̶ motherhood with a remarkable amount of self insight, daring to get into the ugliness and tear down the idealized fantasies and platitudes we’re all so familiar with. I’m not a mother, but even so I felt I was able to relate to Jess’s struggles, even while she was communicating a perspective I had never even considered before, such as the pain and loneliness that comes with suddenly no longer being your partner’s number one priority. It helps that Jess is a hell of a performer, capable of embodying the contradictory and strong emotions that come with her experiences.
What I didn't like
the guy from the audience who played doug was really great he should have had tons more lines
My overall impression
What a moving and entertaining performance! If you let it, Eat the Mama will expand your heart to the size of the moon.
