I loved the framing device of the space metaphor. That paid dividends throughout.
Loved the creative use of the PVC pipe
Love how this small play felt epic.
Loved the middle cooking show bit
What I didn't like
If this were to be recounted, I might re-consider the opening (“I’m going to take my face and put it on your body”). I love that it bookends at the end, but if I’m honest, I didn’t track that in the moment. (I think i perceived the emphasis to be on face instead of body? My bad pitch would be to have a sound cue at the end echoing “body body body.”) Coz tbh after at opening I thought we were going to talk about post-partum psychosis LOL
Loved it though!!
My overall impression
Do you know a mom? Take her to this play. Actually better yet, offer to babysit so she and her partner can see this play.
Jessica tells this story of transition to motherhood with such beauty, humor, honesty that I cry-laughed the whole way through. And I wasn’t the only one.
It’s also beautifully directed – somehow this small production still feels epic.
