My overall impression

I too attended the preview dress rehearsal yesterday and I’m a little annoyed that reviewers are reviewing a technical aspect of the show which the director clearly came out before the show to tell us would not be at performance level. He gave us fair warning ended my opinion it’s not fair to attack that aspect of the show in reviews. I’m not saying that the show was perfect, but I don’t think it was anywhere near what the team hopes for us to get out of it. I think it will benefit from more performances and getting used to the space.

Having never read Time Machine, I was sort of open for anything and a lot of stuff got by me. The actors were dedicated to the filling their duties and telling the story they were supposed to tell. James Hanna in particular threw in a lot of impromptu comedy which livened up the room. The protagonist was not a strong and actor as the others but since he had written the material, I think he was able to make it sound the way he wanted it to. And what does it sound like? The Beatles mixed with 80s rock…but mostly Beatles. The songs in some cases were quite good though I wasn’t always convinced that the particular style or rhythm of a given song was fully supporting the dramatic thrust of the story. It would’ve been easier to know the story also if I had heard 90% of the lyrics which I didn’t.

Overall, I think there’s a lot to be proud of in producing the show of this size and I hope the kinks get worked out so they don’t get in the way of a cool show.
