The imagination.

There is a story without a doubt but it is absolutely boggled down by so many random elements that range from amusing to outright bizarre that end up being incredibly distracting and unnecessary.
My overall impression
A mad fever dream of show about a Mexican American girl coming to terms with how she wants to forge her own path.
