This show had a style. Personally it’s not my style. But they’re not shy about going all in. The performances are all way over the top, the dialogue is more poetry than conversation, and the plot is nebulous at best. But from what I can tell it’s intended to be all of those things. The dam is warping the characters’ grip on reality and so the heightened style is warping our sense of what it is to see a play that makes sense. It’s a fever dream but it feels purposeful.
What I didn't like
This show I think succeeds in its mission but this show is not for me. I need a comprensible story and characters I care about to become invested. And this show is so wild that it doesn’t explain what’s happening or what anyone wants. I as an audience member felt like the character Astrid did, nothing makes sense and we’re both unsure why we’re there.
My overall impression
“You’re cute when you make absolutely zero sense” Julia says this to Astrid in this show. And the line pretty accurately sums up the entire show.
