In her life, J.J. Pyle has moved from rural Indiana to Los Angeles to NYC, but her heart has gone just about everywhere. When a series of missed connections and canceled flights keeps her from her roommate’s wedding in India, Pyle heads back to Indiana instead and collides with her past. HOW TO FIND A HUSBAND IN 37 YEARS OR LONGER was developed at New York’s Solo Heroes and has traveled from off-Broadway’s 59E59 to the Edinburgh Fringe. We have the supreme good fortune to have it arrive at HFF25. (Full disclosure: J.J. Pyle appeared in the LA and NYC productions of Lightning Rod Theater’s TIME’S SCREAMANDHURRY.) The show features a superb, skillfully integrated production design, and Pyle deftly portrays several characters, from the girls on her high school drill team to her acerbic and self deprecating father. Eventually, many of us will share a long ride in a pickup truck with problematic relatives, but few will create a multifaceted dramedy from it as perceptive and eloquent as J.J. Pyle does in this show.
