The minimalist scare effects were all VERY effective! Once objects began to animate themselves, each creak of the boards was enough to make me jump (even the second time seeing it!). Even the objects that didnt move were imbued with as much potential as the ones that did— I half-expected the sheet over the couch to rise up at any time. Also the use of lighting was phenomenal!
What I didn't like
The main dialogue between the ghost and the agent was chilling, but after a while felt a bit stuck in its blocking. I have to say though, I’m not sure how I’d improve it since that lighting silhouette of the ghost at the top of the stairs is still such a memorable image.
My overall impression
A masterful demonstration of the horror formula in under an hour! THEVISITOR lulls you into a comically warm welcome, then gradually imbues the stage with potential threat in every corner, daring its audience to anticipate where the next scare will be as the specter’s haunting tale compels your attention.
