What I liked
Katie’s acting! Every facial expression and vocal choice was purposeful. She is a master of her craft and instrument (herself). The video interstitials are SO FUNNY and elevate the already hilarious solo show. I love that she does not play the other characters; we as the audience, can infer what they say. It’s so funny to just watch Katie as Kelly.
What I didn't like
I would love a little more from the ending. Stop reading if you don’t want spoilers! I think what does her breakdown mean (beyond the literal)? What is the grand picture, or what is being discussed? I don’t know these answers! I just think the end could have slightly more of a punch to really send it home/get across what Balen wants to say with this piece (I assume why she wrote it in the first place). I adored this show and am excited to see it again!
My overall impression
AMAZING!!!! Did not know where this show was heading, and LOVED the ride along the way. Katie Balen is such a great politician (reminds me of Amy Poehler so much! Perhaps because of Leslie Knope and Katie’s amazing facial expressions). Katie did this whole show herself. Wrote, directed, acted, and it DOES NOT show. I am so impressed by this comedic force. I expect big things from Katie Balen and am so impressed by her!
