“The Intermediate" embarks on a truthful odyssey of identity, migration, and self-discovery through the eyes of an unknown Vietnamese immigrant navigating the tumultuous waters of cultural assimilation in America. Through a captivating tapestry of Butoh dance, introspective narrative, and glittering bits of campy humor, the immigrant grapples with the complexities of identity, torn between honoring his roots and embracing the allure of the American Dream. He unpacks the fragments of his past and faces the harsh realities of displacement, untangling the threads of his heritage from the expectations of his adopted homeland. With each step, he unravels the layers of societal expectations and familial obligations to discover the power of love and acceptance in embracing his true identity and reclaiming his voice as Kim—a symbol of courage, truth, and the universal human quest for belonging in a world of perpetual transition and transformation as an immigrant.
