What I liked
I liked playing with Elena and other audience members. I liked the banter with her tech person, the way she utilized music in the show, and her use of creative props.
I liked how she navigated deep personal, sometimes painful memories in a buoyant but vulnerable way. It’s as though she did some healing right in front of us.
What I didn't like
Stabilize the Titanic prop.
My overall impression
This show had everything! Elena brought the audience into her backstory and playfully invited them to participate in her family dynamics. Her timing and physical comedy really works here. The gradual transformation into her father was hilarious and so effective. How he ended up eulogizing himself was a real surprise!
A humorous, gritty but loving tribute to a complicated, impressive and flawed parent.
