The structure of the storytelling provided a clear and engaging throughline, and the writing was sharp and funny. I also loved how Romero’s wheelchair was itself a character, and it felt like watching dance choreography when watching Romero move across the stage.
What I didn't like
Romero is a wonderful writer, and obviously this is her own true story, so it makes sense to hear her deliver the piece herself. However, I wonder what the piece would be like with a stronger actor performing the words. Romero was charming, but it’s clear that she’s a writer first and a performer second.
My overall impression
Not only was ‘Me, Myself and Other’ a fun and funny show, but it actually taught me some things I didn’t know and inspired action in me. Diana Romero’s writing is witty and insightful, and Maggie Whittum’s staging and direction kept the show fresh and compelling.
