I like the framing of a tech talk, which comes full circle with the commentary at the end. I also liked some of the stories highlighted! The humor and audience interaction was a lovely touch.
What I didn't like
I think it would be really helpful for the artist to work with a director for the next iteration of this piece. There’s a lot of potential in the source material, but it would benefit from a director’s touch to help craft the performance, movement and dynamic range of the piece.
I’d love to see the performer’s point of view at the end in the context of all the stories we just heard about cars and the roles they play. How are those two reconciled? What are the questions we’re left with? I was left wanting more in terms of what our host wanted and what was in her way and where she leaves things at the end. That tension felt lax so I’d love to see that developed further.
My overall impression
A really interesting concept of exploring the good and the bad of cars in our lives- the freedom they bring, the dependence we have on them, the opportunity cost of having them.
