The story was extremely well written. I enjoyed how quickly the situation was established and the connection to both sides developed. There were some plot points that genuinely shocked me and made me emotional while watching. The cast did an excellent job at representing the culture and conveyed the emotion needed for the high stakes in the plot.
What I didn't like
I wish it was longer! While the story was told very well, I was left wanting more and hoping to learn more about some characters. I would love a little more exposition about Elena Anglao, showing more of her relationship with the all of the children.
My overall impression
This musical was incredibly well done, with a powerful message that was strongly conveyed by the cast. I left the theater feeling educated, empowered, emotionally touched, and inspired. The story was strong and the stakes were made clear to the audience. As a viewer, you can feel the emotional impact posed by the oppression facing the Lumad community as well as the choice that the Salvador sisters must make. It told an educating story of a situation I did not know much about before, and I left feeling empowered to learn more about the news taking place in the Philippines with the Lumad people. The cast portrayed the story very well.
