I thought the ensemble was excellent. There was a real commitment to the atmosphere by the cast, and you simply have to appreciate when the ensemble is dedicated to maintaining it even when they are functionally stage hands.
The lighting design was also incredibly well done.
It’s well written. You won’t find a more sinister show this year. I’m sure fans of Law and Order SVU will appreciate the twists this takes.
What I didn't like
Two things -
1. I couldn’t really hear some of the actors, especially when they were upstage, and I was sitting in the front row.
2. I found Scott and Hannah’s relationship to be underdeveloped – which is very unfortunate, since the crux of things does boil down to the two of them and how far they’ll go for each other. I would have loved if the two of them would have had a scene in the first act that established who they were to each other when they’re not surrogate parents to Tommy, and before things really start going downhill. Maybe even a flashback to Alaska?
My overall impression
While ultimately not my cup of tea as far as entertainment goes, the tension (sexual and not) is palpable, the content compelling, and the stakes are high, and that’s all you can ask for from a good theatre show.
