What I liked
The pacing was great, the ups and downs of the comedy/drama was well balanced, the tone was consistent, overall the storytelling was extremely cohesive and well thought out.
What I didn't like
Some of the blocking regarding the phone ringing was a bit confusing (why it wasn’t getting picked up, which times the message could be heard versus not), and the lighting perhaps could’ve been used to help enhance the beats of the story (perhaps light strobing during the onslaught of voicemails, or different colors depending on who is calling). Minor tweaks as the show itself is already in a great spot, but perhaps those adjustments could make it a truly must-see one woman show!
My overall impression
An impactful and personal showcase of just how nuanced family dynamics can really be! Carsen does a great job getting the audience invested in each of the characters so every time the drama hits, it lands emotionally.
