This early Shakespeare play, doubtlessly co-written with a much debated and so far unknown author, skips like a stone across the some of the early events of the Hundred Years War, including the Battles of Crecy and Poitiers. But there are moments when it touches water and the alchemy of the Bard’s poetry splashes in, including a few lines from his Sonnets. The Porters of Hellsgate are too savvy to allow this production to be only an academic exercise and fill this stage with passion, exceptional performances, distinctive directorial touches and some rockin’, kick-ass sword fights. Huzzah!!

My overall impression
The Young Shakespeare, what was he like? EDWARDIII will gift you with plenty to think about in a crackling sharp production by the Porters of Hellsgate.
