Molly Sharpe is a force of nature. From eating pizza that fell on the ground to asking her dad to leave the room while she mimes eating herself out, there is no bit she won’t commit to 100%. In the Plunge, she pitched the show to me as “stupid” and that’s definitely present, but it really undersells the talent and skill Sharpe displays. It’s not easy for one person to carry a show, let alone play 6 people, each with a bespoke song, who are all interacting with each other. Sharpe leans into the charm of low/no budget to amp up the humor. Even if her characters were unpredictable and amoral, the Molly that gives us explanatory asides is so affable and grounded that we find it easy to just relax and go on this journey as a woman learns the difference between lightning lust and slower-burning love. Mostly by throwing herself at the nearest thing with lips that isn’t currently bringing the vibe down by being all negative.
What I didn't like
The pizza just had olives and it looked a little cold. No pepperoni? No mushroom? However, Sharpe is staging a production, not running a restaurant, so that’s pretty minor. And all the people who prefer cold pizza probably loved that!
My overall impression
A wild and unpredictable romp through the ups and downs that follow your average, everyday, run-of-the-mill murder.
