I loved the almost eery space of the stage design. Using video footage to not just express plot but also exercise tension between the leads. There’s a great question posed about what people are actually capable of when pushed to their limits by grief and I thought it was realized in such a great theatrical way. Familial trauma is very real and even when things become extremely heightened, the sibling bond formed by the stellar writing and performances keep things grounded in emotional truth. Some great payoffs in the final moments.
What I didn't like
.
My overall impression
A tight & taut two hander that slowly reveals its layers over an economic run time. The mystery of what’s inside the trunk is only half the story; and even after the reveal, there’s still more fun to be had thanks to two great central performances. Truly enjoyed this play and can’t wait for more from Jim Hanna!
