What I liked

Mallie didn’t just share her favorite movie watching experience, she reminded us why it’s fun to pretend. How pretending actually leads us to the people we actually become. Some of it is fun. Some of it is serious. And sometimes it can be painful. Many times Mallie has to pause the movie and read her journal from when she saw the movie and discuss the joys and fears of growing up. Especially when it felt like things were out of control and just not fair. My journey is not identical to Mallie’s, and it isn’t supposed to me. It’s a reminder that movies are about escaping away from reality for a bit. And then coming back to reality to observe how things really are. The challenges don’t go away, but they seem more bearable. Don’t dream it. Be it. And watch her show. You won’t regret it.

What I didn't like

I loved watching Mallie perform almost all of the characters in Titanic.

I know it’s supposed to be one person show, but would like to see some of the people in her journal come to life. Through good times and bad. The journal reading by itself was affective. I loved it. Would also love to see the people from her journal if that is possible for future shows.

My overall impression

Whenever I watch a movie in the theater, I like to escape into that movie if it really grabs me. It doesn’t leave me, even when watching the movie is done. Mallie McCown took me and the rest of the audience down her path. Her way. She was a kid that joyously watched and then later mimicked those moments. Sometimes with friends. Sometimes alone. In “Fuck! An Iceberg” Mallie takes you on that journey. You even get to participate along the way and be part of the movie. This play isn’t just about a certain film. It’s a journey into Mallie’s life. And how clinging to something she loves doing helps with life’s challenges. She shares her, while indirectly reminding all of us we have our own too. An absolute delight to be a part of this. Very happy I was a part of that journey.
