What I liked
The character work was hilarious, and when the juxtaposition of the journal entries was layered on top, it worked so well. The various props for characters- including the double sided wigs- were too funny. Yes, they got misplaced sometimes, but it just added to the magical chaos.
What I didn't like
Some of the journal entries could be cut a bit to keep up the pace of tonal transitions, but I really loved their placement. The water and ice was a great touch throughout, but maybe a splash warning? 😂
My overall impression
Mallie McCown’s performance is a tour de force. McCown’s talent shines throughout—in her physical comedy work, as a character actor playing an entire movie cast at lightning speed, and in her vulnerable monologues sharing her past through journal entries, which really take the show, and her performance, to the next level. I expected to giggle, but man oh man— I belly-laughed, I got teary, I danced onstage (it’s interactive, in the best way). And the fact that it kicks off with Dylan George’s phenomenal magic was an extra special treat! This show is far from a shipwreck. Do not miss it!!!
