I LOVE the charming cast, the simple set design and the fun costumes. How vulnerable these characters become on stage is what really makes this musical special. These ladies were quite generous up there! The mix of fun and spunky moments with the heavier dips really makes the hour fly by. I appreciate the tears as much as I appreciate the giggles <3
What I didn't like
Hmmmm, I heard it is not possible at Fringe but I wish they could have had microphones so that I could hear them better. The talent did a great job of protecting, especially dialogue, but hearing the music louder would be nice. I wishhhh Kitten Mother had her own song, each character has the chance to open their hearts to the audience both at their times of feeling high and low, I wish we got to be alone with Kitten Mother to see her depth as well.
My overall impression
Kittens was such a treat to see at Fringe this year! It is a wonderful musical with an incredibly endearing cast <3 The story and talent handled very heavy topics in such a graceful way. From start to finish, there is a perfect balance, keeping the audience laughing and smiling between the heavier beats; I found myself giggling one moment, and tearing up the next. The set design was simple yet fulfilling and costumes were very charming and colourful. The music is carefully threaded throughout the hour and so well delivered, time flew by. I highly recommend going to see this musical!
