The overall feel of the show. I love that while this still dealt with some more serious topics, it did so in a way that a musical would. There was no center stage grand monologues about something heavy, instead it got slowly and more subtly revealed in songs and movement as well. I was really impressed by the written arc for the plot and the characters.
What I didn't like
I really would love to see this be a 2 hour or 90 minute musical – I think there are a lot of opportunities to expand and give even bigger pay off to some already well done character moments.
My overall impression
Sometimes all you want to do is feel pretty and feminine… but the world has a tough way of reminding us that we don’t always get to do that unbothered. Kittens is a very smart musical about how three girls in the late 60s dealt with problems that haunt women even today still – and does so in a style that feel effortless and never heavy-handed.
