This show was wonderful start to finish. Excellent performances all around; the puppetry was sensational and elevated the piece as a whole. The adaptation is also incredibly well-done and carefully constructed. Fantastic direction.
What I didn't like
I wouldn’t change a thing.
My overall impression
This show feels turnkey-ready for Broadway. I was so moved by the storytelling, not just by the individual performances, the direction, the puppetry, or the writing, but by this piece’s commitment to telling this story in a way that not only captures the spirit of the Fringe festival, but that captures what theatre can do better than any other artform.
There is no need for big effects, stage magic, or stunts. The cast works together with excellent direction and renders a time machine effortlessly with flashlights and umbrellas. The cast hums in harmony to create otherworldly alien sounds that chilled me to my core. And all of it is believable and magical. I disappeared inside that theatre for 90 minutes.
The entire cast and crew should be commended for their efforts on this piece. My only regret is that I cannot see it again. I will wait patiently to see where this show goes next.
