The performances, the puppets and puppetry, the directing and writing, the sound design – it’s all a pleasure to watch.
What I didn't like
SPOILERALERT: I think the play went two minutes too long. Not because of length. There seemed to be a powerful moment to end with mystery and, one suspected, possibly tragedy just after the Time Traveler’s final disappearance and the Author wrapping the play up. If it ended at that point, I would have felt slightly disturbed, provoked, and fascinated. Instead, it was tied up a bit too neatly with a final song and the return of the Time Traveler and a happy ending. It was enjoyable nonetheless and I left the theater feeling inspired, but it softened the blow of what could have been a powerful ending.
My overall impression
This production is funny, charming, engaging, and thought-provoking and absolutely worth going to see. It’s much better than I expect from the average Fringe show. The performances are excellent and the actor who plays the time traveler provides a captivating performance. The puppet design is superb and the actors do a great job bringing them to life.
