Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of my favorite movies, so my favorite part of Sever Slasher Massacre was the utilization of clips from the film’s opening narration to start the show.
The play overall did a good job balancing horror and comedy, and there were talented actors (including Ianna and Marla) in the cast!
What I didn't like
Although I appreciate any attempts to advocate for people dismissively called “unskilled labor”, and, as the ex-boyfriend of a waitress, I particularly care about servers, the monologues about that were a bit heavy-handed. The message could have been delivered more deftly and less in an on-the-nose manner.
Also, this is very minor, but after the first massacre the reporter said three people were killed even though it was actually four. I don’t know if that was a mistake. If it was a joke I didn’t get it.
One more thing – the show was listed as 60 minutes but took 70. Didn’t affect me because it was my last show of the night, but I can’t speak for the whole audience.
My overall impression
Fun way to close out a Friday night! I’ve spoken with Ra’Shawn about how I hope we can work together one day.
