This is by far the largest cast I’ve seen assemble for a Fringe Show this year. A daunting thought. Can only imagine what the dressing room situation must have been like! But what I really walk away with is a sense of amazement at how Martinez Barron is able to juggle such a sizable ensemble, energizing the stage with passages of darkly humorous and witty familial banter while also finding the moments for each of them to shine.
Every actor brought such passion to their performances and were perfectly cast as their onstage counterparts.
What I didn't like
I hope this show continues to evolve even after Fringe is wrapped. If so, I would suggest taking the material and shaving it down to a 60-75 minute piece.
My overall impression
I don’t know if Dad is having fun in hell, but I do know I had a wonderful time checking out Adriana Martinez Barron’s moving portrait of a fractured family trying to navigate an uncertain future while reckoning with some painful scars from the past.
